“The Power of Music” season begins with the sense of belonging featuring the orchestra’s “Welcome Back” Concert!
Highlights include:
George Gershwin’s Overture to Girl Crazy. This overture showcases Gershwin’s unparalleled ability to blend classical sophistication with the irresistible rhythms of jazz and the melodies of Broadway and Tin Pan Alley. From its famous songs, such as “Embraceable You” and “I Got Rhythm”, to its infectious rhythms, Gershwin’s music brings a touch of classic Broadway flair and playful sophistication to the program.
Ginastera’s Four Dances from Estancia capture the vibrant essence of Argentine folk traditions and ranch life through Ginastera’s modernist lens. Similar to Copland’s “Rodeo” in its story and structure, each dance is a colorful, rhythmic celebration, evoking the spirit of the Argentinian “estancias” (ranches) with its dynamic rhythms and lively orchestrations.
Dvořák's Symphony No. 8. Known for its warm, folk-inspired themes and dance-like rhythms, reflecting Dvořák's deep affection for his native Czech homeland, the symphony’s uplifting and pastoral qualities make it a favorite for both listeners and musicians alike.

Get your tickets early as the “Holiday Spectacular” is sure to be a sell out for both nights! Enjoy the performance hall getting spruced up both inside and out as the S.O. transforms the space to get you in the right mindset for the holidays. Holiday vendors will be selling items, and the orchestra will perform some holiday favorites - from Bizet’s “Farandole” to soprano Saundra DeAthos enchanting us with “O Holy Night” and “Where are You Christmas”. The big present under the tree will be the premiere of “Clara & the Nutcracker Prince”, as arranged by S.O. music director Wojciech Milewski. This unique twist on the Nutcracker combines the beloved music and story of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker with the music and stories of Bizet and Respighi.
We know it's Valentine's Day, so we are pulling out all the romantic stops and invite you and your loved ones out to "The Poet and the Muse."

The S.O. will perform works that have brought the big screens of Hollywood to life, including a medley from “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl”, Respighi’s “Pines of Rome” that was featured in Fantasia 2000, and Hollywood composer Erich Korngold's Violin Concerto in D Major performed by world-renowned and celebrated violinist, Benjamin Baker.
